Daylen H. Buchanan Obituary Avery County Death: Community Mourn

The community of Watauga County is mourning the tragic loss of 20-year-old Daylen H. Buchanan following a deadly head-on collision on NC 105 near the Avery County line on Tuesday night. Authorities have confirmed that criminal charges have been filed against 18-year-old Alex Gil Hernandez in connection with the crash.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred when a vehicle traveling northbound reportedly crossed the centerline and struck Buchanan’s southbound 2019 Ram Truck head-on. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but Buchanan, a resident of Bakersville in Mitchell County, was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators identified the driver of the other vehicle as Alex Gil Hernandez of Zionville. Hernandez reportedly suffered minor injuries and was transported to Watauga Medical Center for treatment before later being released. Authorities have since charged him with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and reckless driving as the investigation continues.

The fatal collision has deeply impacted both families and surrounding communities, with residents expressing sorrow over the sudden loss of a young life. Friends and loved ones have begun sharing tributes remembering Buchanan and offering support to those affected by the tragedy.
