The communities of Streator and Kinsman are mourning the tragic death of 23-year-old Carlin J. McGarvey following a violent two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Kinsman Road and Prairie Road in rural Grundy County.
According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the crash scene shortly after 7:09 a.m. on May 13, 2026, after receiving reports of a serious collision involving an ejected driver. Preliminary findings indicate that McGarvey was driving a Ford Ranger when the vehicle reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign before entering the intersection and colliding with an SUV.
Authorities say the impact caused McGarvey to be ejected from the pickup truck. Investigators further reported that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Emergency responders rushed him to Morris Hospital with critical injuries, but despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced dead by the Grundy County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the SUV, identified only as a 22-year-old woman from Kinsman, reportedly sustained minor injuries and declined treatment at the scene. Officials have not indicated that impairment or additional criminal factors are suspected at this stage of the investigation.
