Daniel Straker Obituary Wolverhampton, UK Death: Community Mourn Of The Loss Of Beloved Resident

The trial of Daniel Straker has continued at Wolverhampton Crown Court, where the defendant denies causing the death of pedestrian Kewal Singh Dhesi by careless driving following a fatal collision in Ettingshall.

The case relates to a tragic incident that occurred on November 4, 2014, when 72-year-old Kewal Singh Dhesi was struck by a van at the junction of Parkfield Road and Myatt Avenue. The court heard that Mr. Dhesi suffered catastrophic injuries in the collision and later died despite being taken to hospital.

Prosecutors allege that Daniel Straker, aged 53 at the time of the incident, failed to properly observe the pedestrian while turning his van. Straker, however, maintains that he did not see Mr. Dhesi before the impact and has pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing death by careless driving.

During proceedings, the court has examined detailed accounts of the collision, including evidence from investigators describing minor damage to the front of the van near the headlights, consistent with a low-speed but fatal impact. The defense argues that the incident reflects a tragic “looked-but-failed-to-see” scenario, in which a driver’s attention does not register a person in their path despite looking in the correct direction.

The case has drawn attention due to its focus on driver perception and responsibility in road traffic fatalities. Witness testimony and expert analysis are being reviewed to establish whether Straker’s driving fell below the expected standard of care.

The trial remains ongoing, with further hearings expected as the court continues to assess evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. No verdict has yet been reached.
